Batam Island Information

Batam is the largest town in the province of Riau Islands, Indonesia. Batam is an island located very strategically located in the international cruise lines. The city has close proximity to Singapore and Malaysia. Batam is one of the fastest growing cities in Indonesia. When built in the early 1970s the city was only occupied by about 6000 residents, and according to population census in June 2010 in Batam city has a population 1025044 inhabitants and is the largest and most populous city in Sumatra after the third population of Medan and Palembang.

 

History

Batam Island was first inhabited by people called the strait melayu since AD 231. Island who had been a field of struggle Admiral Hang Nadim in fighting the invaders are used by the government in the 1960s as a petroleum logistics base on the island of Sambu.

Religion

Islam is the religion of the majority in Batam. Language

Economy
